Active-shooter drill at Biola University helps prepare students, and officers for emergency
Biola University in La Mirada, California held an active-shooter training exercise to prepare students and faculty for potential threats on campus. The university has around 5,000 students, half of whom live on campus. The recent shooting rampage at Michigan State has once again brought campus safety to the forefront of many colleges and universities across the country. Biola University has its own threat assessment team and provides training specifically for students to increase safety on campus. Despite the drill being a simulation, the sounds of shots and people running triggered an adrenaline reaction in participants.
ISG’s view is the active-shooter training exercise conducted by Biola University is a crucial step in ensuring the safety of its students and faculty. While the exercise may have triggered an adrenaline response in the participants, it has also equipped them with the knowledge and skills necessary to respond effectively in a real-life situation. Other institutions of higher learning should take similar steps to prepare for the possibility of an active shooter on campus.
